I grew up in the, what used to be, small town of Turlock, CA. I go back there to visit a couple times a year as I still have family there. Well, I just returned from one of my visits and I am continually amazed at how much my little town has changed. I try to take a couple of pictures each time I am there that show how the farms and independent business are slowly being eaten up by big box stores and tract housing.
One thing I noticed on my way into town on this last trip is that a small biker bar which once sat on a river bank in the even smaller town of Hilmar, CA (located just outside of Turlock) had vanished. I was reminded of a photo I made of Dave & Rose's River Inn back in 1996 while heading back to see family. It was such a great honky-tonk kind of place and I'll miss seeing all of the bikes parked out front as I drive by...
