"THRICE"

It's like a family reunion without having to kiss my Aunt with the mustache!...

The core members of the Haley Collective... J.Shea9, Racecar13 and myself are showing together again. Breaking it down to the bare bones, just like the first show of the "Works in Progress" series, we will be exhibiting work as a threesome only. It's all going down at Art From Scrap, which is located in the same neighborhood where the collective joined forces for the first time.

See below for all of the details...

A stab at creativity...

During my recent visit to Portland I stayed armed with my camera most of the time. Between visiting with friends, hanging my art show, walking to dinner and so on... I stopped here and there to grab a few fun shots... This last one is my homage to Eggleston...

New pics of the Agave Inn...

A while back I posted a blog about the renovations my friends Chris and Kenny (from the Presidio Motel) were doing to the old Traveler's Motel on upper State Street here in Santa Barbara. Well, after some more renovations and a new street sign, they had me back for more shooting. It has become the Agave Inn and now that the rest of the pictures have been taken, a new website will follow soon.

This time a model was thrown into the mix to liven things up...

Portland treated me right...

My recent two man show with J.Shea9 at IGLOO gallery in Portland was a success. According the the folks who run the gallery, it was the highest attended show they've ever had. I sold four of my pieces which didn't hurt either.

Now I am gearing up for my next show which is less than a month away. It is titled "Thrice" and will, again, be with J.Shea and our other fellow Haley Collective member, Racecar13. It's going down at AFS gallery here in SB and the opening in August 8th.

I'll post more info. and the show invite soon, but for now, here are some pics from Portland...Me and my brother standing next to the "Purple People Eater" and having way too much fun. I'm happy to say, that piece found a new home in Portland.

MERGE...

Ok, it's official. Below is the invite to mine and J.Shea9's show at IGLOO gallery in Portland. Read it and weep. If you are in the Portland area be sure and check it out!...If you can't make it, visit the PORTFOLIO section of my website for a glimpse of what I will be showing.

R.I.P Kodachrome...

With all due respect... I wont miss you that much. Your reproductive qualities left me often frustrated. Your color shifts were a pain in my ass when I worked in imaging labs making slide dupes and internegatives. During the digital age you have proven to be the same thorn in my side when I scan you. More color shifts and exaggerated grain.

Thank you for revolutionizing color photography... but I'm really not that sad to see you go.

Antique Nationals a bust as well...

Well, all my boys bailed on the Antique Nationals too. Sick mom's (meaning no baby sitter), family coming in from out of town and a car needing to be finished before being shipped out to Minnesota were all good reason to skip out.

So... since I floundered on getting the dates right on El Mirage and drove 6 hours for no reason, gas reached over $3.00 per gallon for mid-grade and I just plain ol' didn't want to go it alone so... I bailed too.

I did take my newly found, spare time to Ricky Rojas' place and snap some shots of the 1941 Plymouth he rebuilt for a gal before it headed off to Minnesota... The End

El Mirage or Bust...

Bust it is! Well sort of. The plan was for a group of us to go to El Mirage this Sat. and Sun. for the dry lake-bed drag races. Turns out, everyone would rather go to the Antique Nationals in Fontana, CA. Well, I decided I was hitting them both. I've been jones'n for some El Mirage action since my first visit in 2006. After Saturday's races I would head to Fontana from there. So, I drove to El Mirage tonight, to camp, and wake up there early and start shooting pics. Wrong!

I drove my ass all the way there, 3 hours, to find that the races were only on Sunday. Ha. You can only imagine my dismay. I put my tail between my legs, turned the truck and around and made the 3 hour drive back home which included one DUI check point on the way. Look like I'll be gearing up to make the 2.5 hour drive to Fontana on Sunday, starting at 5AM, ugh.

But, today's road trip wasn't a total loss, grabbed this little gem on the way...Almost made the drive worth it! (click it for the larger view)

Art Resources Framing & Gallery...

I've been spending some time with my buddy, Matt, who owns Art Resources frame shop and gallery here in SB. He's been helping me prep some of the boards I will be mounting images to and showing in an upcoming exhibit with J. Shea9 at IGLOO gallery in Portland, OR.

While I was there today, he showed my his new website that his wife, Brittany, made for the shop and I thought I would share it with you. If you are in the market for quality framing, Art Resources comes highly recommended by me. Also, be sure to frequently check their gallery section to see what shows are currently on display.

Garage Magazine No. 18...

Just about ten months after a shoot I did for Garage Magazine, the issue with the story finally came out. It was the third "Test Drive" shoot I did with them and this time it was a 1955 Chevy gasser owned by Cisco Lastra.
We took the car throughout SF, visiting all the usual tourist stops in town for the story. The Golden Gate, Lombard Street, Union Square, Chinatwon and, one un-tourist stop, the Tenderloin (where the car got nothing but thumbs up)...
Here's the cover and my opening spread...
Here's a few shots that were featured with the story...
Oh, and I had a cameo in the "Family" section at the back of the magazine. It's a shot of me with car builder, Cole Foster at the "Full Custom Living" Garage Mag. art show in SF.

That's us in the pic below the show flier standing in front of the portrait I made of him. That piece actually sold at the show that night...
Here is the portrait as it hung on the wall, it was a candid shot of him standing in front of the 36 Ford he built for Kirk Hammett of the band, Metallica.
